About DeskHabit

Last updated: June 2026

DeskHabit is a small, independent publication about doing focused work without expensive tools or complicated systems. We write clear, step-by-step how-to guides on productivity, study habits, everyday tech fixes, and genuinely free software — the kind of stuff most people quietly struggle with but rarely get a straight answer about.

Why this site exists

Most "productivity" advice on the internet is either vague motivation or a thinly disguised ad for a paid app. We started DeskHabit to do the opposite: write the practical walkthrough we wish we'd had. Every guide is something we have actually set up, tested on our own laptops and phones, and refined until it works for a normal person with a normal budget.

We care about three things in everything we publish:

  • It has to be tested. If we recommend a tool or a method, we have used it ourselves. We mention the rough edges, not just the highlights.
  • It has to be doable today. No "first, buy a $200 app". We lean on free and built-in tools wherever they're good enough.
  • It has to respect your time. We get to the steps quickly and skip the padding.

Who writes here

DeskHabit is run from Maharashtra, India by a small team with a background in software and content — people who spend their whole day at a desk and have opinions about how to make that desk work harder. We're not a faceless content farm: when something is our personal experience, we say so, and when something is just widely accepted best practice, we say that too.

Our topics

You'll find guides grouped into four areas: Productivity (systems, focus, planning), Tech How-To (fixing slow devices, backups, accounts), Free Tools (apps worth installing that cost nothing), and Tips & Tricks (smaller wins that add up). New guides go up regularly.
